History

THE FIRST GENERATION

G. H. Herrmann Funeral Homes was founded by George Harry Herrmann in 1926 and served a small neighborhood community on the south side of Indianapolis, Indiana. Known for his personal touch, George expanded the business in 1928 from its tiny storefront beginning to a large Victorian home just a stones throw away from the original location. Through 82 years of expansion, renovations and serving thousands of families, this home still remains "THE" Family Funeral Home.

THE SECOND GENERATION

As the city grew and the times changed, G.H. Herrmann grew with it. In 1964 George Herrmann and his son Bob built one of the first facilities solely for the purpose of providing funeral services on Madison Ave. They used the spot where the Herrmanns family home sat. Mr Herrmann moved the family house to the back of the parcel then built the most advanced mortuary in the state. Quite unconventional for the times, the mere size of this building was staggering, and was designed with fine attention to detail and quality in every inch. This commitment was evidence of their deep gratitude toward a loyal community. George and his wife Ruth lived in the apartment above this new funeral home for many years.

THE THIRD GENERATION

Just as Bob Herrmann and his father built the home on Madison Avenue, Jeff and his father have done the same with their third location in Greenwood, Indiana. As smaller and less expensive funeral homes were being built across the country, the Herrmann family once again gave the community a facility that is second to none. Built to accommodate the surrounding community, the G.H. Herrmann Greenwood Funeral Home is by far the finest facility with the most state of the art amenities. Without losing any of its comfort and warmth they have interweaved new technology into older traditions. Offering 55" HDTVs in every chapel with complimentary DVD slideshows. The Herrmann family still provides the highest level of service anyone could expect.

THE NEXT GENERATION

The Gardens at Olive Branch Cemetery and Mausoleum Park was opened spring 2010. Founded by Jeff Herrmann, The Gardens was designed to be the finest cemetery around. With generous flower beds and a collection of fine rare species of trees, we want to bring a peaceful and beautiful cemetery to Greenwood. The mausoleum is made of all Hoosier components. Using real limestone, the mausoleum was designed in a radius style, making it one of 2 built like this in the world. The curve really accentuates the architecture throughout the cemetery.

Future

TThe Herrmann family looks to expand both the funeral home and the cemetery soon. A sister cemetery to The Gardens is being planned.
In 2017 The Herrmann family acquired over 60 more acres for expansion of the cemetery. This makes The Gardens one of there largest cemeteries in central Indiana.

Proud to be owned by the Herrmann Family: Bob, Noramae, April, & Jeff Herrmann
